What to Know Before Your Buy an RC Truck
There are several things you need to know before you buy an RC truck. We tried to put together a quick guide for you, before we get into the top 10 models.
Which is the best off-road RC truck?
There is no definitive “best” off-road RC truck as preferences can vary depending on the user’s needs and wants. For our experts, we measure the best as a definition or reviews, ratings, price, and brand. Some popular options in the market include the Traxxas Slash 4X4, Axial SCX10 II, and Redcat Racing Everest Gen7.
What is the best truck for rough terrain?
The best truck for rough terrain will depend on the specific terrain conditions and where you are located in the world. Generally, a truck with larger tires, high ground clearance, and sturdy suspension is ideal. Some popular models for rough terrain include the Traxxas TRX-4, Axial SCX10 III, and HPI Venture.
What is the toughest RC truck on the market?
Having a tough truck is very important. If you are going offroading, you want the chasis, frame, and suspension to be able to keep up with the abuse. Some popular models known for their durability and resilience include the Traxxas X-Maxx, Arrma Kraton 8S, and Losi Super Rock Rey.
Are Nitro RC trucks better than electric?
It’s hard to compare the both, but here’s the key differences. Nitro engines offer a realistic engine sound and are great for speed and acceleration, but require more maintenance and can be messier than electric counterparts.
Electric motors offer consistent performance and are easier to maintain, but may not have the same sound and may have a shorter run time.
What is the best RC truck brand?
Like RC car brands, trucks are very similar. Most companies that make cars, also make trucks. Some popular brands include Traxxas, Axial, Arrma, Redcat Racing, and Losi.
Which is better gas or electric RC cars?
This decision will come down to the time you have available to maintain and prepare to use your truck. Gas-powered cars often offer a more realistic driving experience and longer run times but require more maintenance and are generally more expensive.
Electric cars are generally easier to maintain and offer consistent performance but may have shorter run times and lack the realistic engine sound of gas-powered cars. So, if you have less time available and are just getting started, choose electric for an easier learning curve.

The Land Rover 1/10th features portal axles like a military Hummer so you get maximum ground clearance and full power to all four wheels. You can have speed in high range or power to take on any terrain in low range with locking differentials all with a flip of the switch on the RC transmitter!
The Traxxas Defender is built by Traxxas, which is one of the most popular RC brands in the world today. The have a deep company history, and you can trust their build quality.
The TRX-4 features a dual-fit battery tray that can hold either a full-size battery or small 1/16 scale batteries so you can adjust the balance of weight depending on where you run this RC truck (batteries sold separately). The package dimensions are 25.5 x 12.0 x 10.2 inches, so be sure you have room in your garage for this amazing toy.
In terms of the accessories and add-ons, you don’t really need anything else. The Defender is sold in many colors, and comes with everything except the battery and charger. Traxxas recommends: 6 or 7-cell NiMH or 2 or 3-cell LiPo batteries like the Traxxas 2872 iD LiPo 3s 5000mAh Battery and Traxxas 2970 EZ-Peak NiMH/LiPo fast charger.
This truck has it all. Waterproof electronics and sealed bearings mean mud and water are easily conquered. At nearly $500, this is definitely the most expensive model we tested. But once you drive one, you will never want to go back to anything less.

Great list! There isn't anything better than the Tamiya style "Monster Truck" to me. The classic big tires, yellow rims, and rigid chassis is perfect for offroad.
If you are a kid, get a cheap truck. But if you are an adult with a decent budget, buy the Arrma Kraton. It's a sledgehammer of an offroad truck with insane speed. You won't be let down.
Does Traxxas have any real competitors in the RC truck game? I think so. Check out the Arrma Granite or any of the other models. It's surprisingly similar for 20% or more less price.
I bought one last Christmas and haven't regretted it. Sometimes takes awhile to charge and the battery doesn't last as long as I'd like, but still a blast to drive both on road and offroad.
If you are looking for a great RC truck with serious offroad chops, I'd recommend Laegendary. Great truck for the price too and you can get them everywhere including Amazon and Walmart.
